RE: What does YOUR tow vehicle ACTUALLY weigh?

2002 Chevy Silverado 3500 Crew Cab Dually 4x4 Duramax / Allison. Put it on the scales full of fuel with me in it and it weighed 7640 pounds.

RE: Portable Ice Maker?

We bought the Edgestar from www.compactappliance.com and paid $119.00 plus free shipping and handling. Makes 3 different sizes of ice. Sure beats buying bag ice and having to carry ice coolers. Below is a photo of the one that we bought http://demandware.edgesuite.net/aabh_prd/on/demandware.static/Sites-Appliance-Site/Sites-CompactAppliance/default/v1213686560612/products/viewlarger/IP210TI_vl1.jpg

RE: Campgrounds Where they full this long week end

We stayed at River Platation in Pigeon Forge Tennessee over the weekend and not one empty site to be had. I spoke with the lady at the office and she said that they had been full up since November of 07.

RE: Are you camping Memorial Day Weekend and where?

Will be leaving Friday morning and will be staying at River Plantation in Pigeon Forge Tennessee and leaving out on Monday. We made the reservations 6 months ago and it was almost booked at that time. It sure don't look like the high fuel prices are stoping to many Rv'ers.

RE: best campground in/around pigeon forge TN???

Another vote for River Plantation. We have stayed there several times and like it better than the others. We are going to stay there this Memorial day weekend for 4 days. I have some photos of the CG in my Camping Photos link

RE: 5th wheel tailgate or not

I don't know if the V-gate saves on mileage but it does make it easier to hook and unhook. I have done it both ways and prefer my V-gate.

RE: Outside Refrigerators

We purchasd one 2 years ago after we came back from the beach and using coolers with ice was a pain. It was so hot the ice did not last very long. The little frig works great and I will never be without another one while camping. I wished we had done it several years ago.

RE: Gas or diesel in 2008?

As many of the other post have mentioned it is which one works best for you and your needs. I personally have nothing against gas engines and as others have mentioned the V-10 and the 8.1 are very good and reliable proven engines and both will tow big loads. When I was looking for a diesel I bought used to save some money. I had the 6.0 gasser before I got the diesel and it pulled my 5er quite well. Luckily it is not my daily driver or I probally would have kept the 6.0 gasser. With diesel about a dollar a gallon higher than gas it sure makes the gas engines the more desirable choice. Good luck.

Truckers Strike

I was just curious if anyone had heard anything about the truckers strike that was supposed to happen today.

RE: Buying Flagstaff 5th wheel ? Good camper?

Hi kingsportcamper, I have the same 5th wheel that you are looking at buying. Ours is a 2006 model but I think that the floorplans on the new ones is the same as ours. We had a few minor problems at first but nothing major but they were taken care of under warranty. When we got the 5er I had a 2000 2500 Chevy Silverado with the 6.0 litre gasser with the 3:73 rear end and it did a good job towing the camper. I traded it in on a 2002 Chevy Silverado 3500 Dually Duramax/Allison and can hardly tell that it is behind the truck, but since diesel fuel is so much higher than gas I would not mind having it back but the diesel does tow better. All in all it is a very good camper. Loaded to go ours will weigh just a little over 8000 lbs with a 1600 lb pin weight depending on how long we pack for our stay. There are some photos of ours in my profile and at the bottom of this post. Good luck with your choice.

RE: Should 5er be set up 2" high in front for pulling

Mine rides a little nose high but I have never had any problems and it tows great. I have a photo of mine hooked up in my profile and you can see how nose high mine is.

RE: Refridgerator Question

We always run ours while traveling and have never had a problem. The refrigerators in these rv's work very well off of the gas. I always check ours when we make pit stops to make sure the gas has not blown out while traveling.

RE: Pigeon Forge Things to Do

There are to many places to mention but go to the Apple Barn it is a awesome place to eat and as others have mentioned go see Cades Cove and Dollywood, Smokey Mtn. Knife Works and the Bass Pro Shop. We have already made reservations for 3 trips there for this summer at River Plantation. It is a fun place and you will have a good time.

RE: Diesel price

The lowest here in Asheville, NC is $3.59 at the Hess stations and the Citgo's it is $3.99. Wow what a deal we are getting.

RE: Thinking fifth-wheel, Wildcat 31THSB and Megacab 2500?

We looked at the same Wildcat toy hauler but passed it by because I could not get both of our motorcycles in the garage. Other than that it is a very nice 5th wheel. Your truck should not have any problems towing that 5er. Good luck and happy camping.
